Iowa Sports Betting Reaches 21-Month High in October

Iowas sports betting activity reached a peak in October, marking the most significant wagering volume in 21 months. This surge surpasses the previous high recorded in January 2022.

Iowas sports betting activity achieved its highest monthly total in nearly two years during October, and the state’s earnings also reached a 12-month peak.

Iowa bettors wagered $255.3 million (£207.6 million/€238.5 million) on sporting events in October. This represents a 6.9% increase compared to $238.8 million in October 2022 and a 3.9% increase from $245.8 million in September.

This total also marks the highest since the record-breaking $303.3 million in January 2022, 21 months prior.

Of all the wagers placed in October, $231.8 million was wagered online, while $23.5 million was placed at physical sportsbooks in Iowa.

Iowas sports betting revenue reached $24.2 million in October. This signifies a 26.7% increase from $19.1 million last year and slightly exceeds the $24.1 million recorded in September.

Moreover, the October revenue total represents the highest monthly total since $25.4 million was recorded in September 2022.

Diamond Jo Dubuque and its partner FanDuel continued to dominate the Iowa market in October. The partnership generated a total of $6.5 million in revenue and $62.8 million in handle.

Jefferson’s Wild Rose and DraftKings secured the second position again, generating $3.6 million in revenue and $43.4 million in handle. Its sister property and DraftKings partner, Clinton’s Wild Rose, claimed third place with $3 million in revenue and $32.3 million in handle.

Emmitsburg’s Wild Rose gambling establishment collaborated with DraftKings and witnessed remarkable outcomes in October. This alliance generated $2.9 million in earnings from $26.8 million in wagers.

Sports wagering taxes in October reached $1.6 million, with bettors claiming a total of $225.3 million in winnings.
